Default What's Audi's official recommended timing belt replacement interval on 1.8T (not in owner's manual)

A friend of mine's '98 Passat 1.8T timing belt just broke at 66k miles. I cked my owners manual and maintenance manual on my '98 A4 1.8T, and it doesn't specify what the recommended interval is on the 1.8T engine. The maintenance manual does say 90k miles for the 2.8 engine, but again makes no mention of the 1.8T engine.

Do others have it in their manuals? What's Audi's position?

thanks.

Tom

Default I'd do it around 60k miles.

Default push it to 90

Default It's probably a game of Russian Roulette after 60K.

You have to ask yourself one question..."Do I feel lucky today?"

Default "You've gotta be tough if you're gonna be stupid."

Saw that on a dive shop's bumper sticker in Key Largo last week. Seemed appropriate here. "Pushing" the limit of a timing belt's longevity is just pushing your luck.

Default Based on the collective experiences I've read here, I did mine at 60K...I'd recommend the same.

Default Do it the day the car goes out of warranty. Otherwise....you are asking for it.
